The Dick Turpin Roadshow

“And it’s goodbye from him.”, “And it’s goodbye from him.”, “And it’s goodbye tumblr” Yep as we announced some time ago we are no longer using tumblr. Given that we are now extremely famous and have our own personal rose petal scatterers tumblr just doesn’t cut the mustard when it comes to controlling what we do.

Quite rightly you are limited as to what you can do with your ‘free’ tumblr site but we also found the built in RSS feed to be flakey too. To add insult to injury we needed two feeds, one for mp3 and one for .ogg and this was never going to happen unless we hosted our own site.

tumblr has served us well as a ‘free’ service and any budding podcaster out there who is looking to start out with little to no costs I’d definitely point them here.

We have now changed the original feed for this site feeds.feedburner.com/TheDickTurpinRoadshow so that it no longer points here but (Hopefully) to our new home at tdtrs.co.uk 

All that’s left to say is “So long tumblr and thanks for all the fish.”

Matt is is left ‘holding the baby’ this episode as Pete decides there’s something far better on the TV than entertaining the great unwashed masses of the FOSS community. Given Matt’s chronic monophobia as reported in the Lower Piddle Gazette last Tuesday, Les Pounder (AKA lesp) and Jon Spriggs (AKA jontheniceguy) step in for a threesome with Matt.

We hear how Pete was let down by  Jon’s personal URL shortening service disapearing up its own jaxy which in turn broke just about every link on the shows website. As you would expect from a typical FOSS member it’s all someone else’s fault and anyway “I didn’t think he would use it here there and everywhere.“ 

Room x1101 makes a comeback with Flash being the target of Matt’s venom but flash finds an unlikely ally in jontheniceguy! Les finally reveals the only reason he came on the show was to pimp Ucubed and bleats on and on about it.

This episode starts with a bit of a surprise even though most of you have started to learn that “Nothing surprises us with this show.” we hear the teams thoughts on the recent news about Kubuntu and how they think it’s no big deal. Pete is shocked at the rising popularity with Twitter while Matt seems to think it’s good that every man and his dog is playing on there, plus we hear how mad impressionable fools with more money than sense are buying the shows merchandising crap.

Pete moans about Red Hat and the eye watering cost to become certified while marveling at the affordable prices on offer from Canonical, the team tell Mark Shuttleworth to contact the UK board of education to gain recognised qualifications and hope that they’ll curry favour and riches with their idea.

Pete makes an apology regarding Evan Prodromou co-hosting the show but assures us that the date has been fixed. Matt lets slip that “The podcast that cannot be named.” has far better feedback music than tdtrs, and the team go through the emails where Pete treats the listeners thoughts with his usual contempt.

The main topic this episode is “Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Arch, Debian, Fedora - How much does it all matter?” the guys come up with a brilliant idea for a definitive Linux distribution and Pete actually teaches Matt something for a change!

So at last the TDTRS team manage to secure their first guest co-hosts Philip Newborough and Rebecca Newborough who unless you’ve been living under a rock make up the CrunchBang team.

In this episode we hear how Matt is so poor he has to cruise barbecues for food Pete tells us how Xorg has placed him on their hate list for abusing their products, Phil talks about the custom Crunchbang he has created for Beck’s, because he luuurves her, and Becky tells us how she callously kills bees.

Pete gives the worst apology in history to Jon Kulp for falsely accusing him of sending the silent Room x1101 sound file.

The team go all Zen like discussng existentialism and Matt, Pete and Beck’s gang up on Phil simply because they are cruel. Matt is forced to explain the reason for the shows name and yet still manages to come out squeaky clean.

Matt suggests CoC’s (Codes of Conducts) for Room x1101 which descends into the usual gutter humour listeners have come to expect from the show.

There was a disaster in that it initially appeared the first two hours of recording had been lost and that further recording was impossible therefore we stopped it there while Pete tried to recover the files and figure out what was wrong.

Fortunately recovery was possible if slightly corrupted in places and the final half hour of the show was recorded two days later. We should point out the sound quality is not very good however we just wanted to finish so listen out for Pete screaming “Get on with it!”.

In an effort to worry other pocasts the dynamic duo shrug of threats of abuse about their hair and release episode 5.

Always one to take the controversial path Pete announces that the team will cease to use Linux and follow the one true faith that is Eddie Stobart. The ongoing bickering between Tinap and tdtrs continues as we hear all about secretary’s and rival features.

Matt finally manages to get a word in edgeways and talks about the fascinating subject of HDMI cables but of course gobby Pete cant resist doing an impression inside a well known UK computer store.

Room x1101 finally has a proper sound effect although the team struggle to find items to discuss as the fan base are too bone idle to send suggestions in. Pete lets slip the handbag fight he had on identi.ca with a certain Community Manager during the feedback emails and, distressingly, breaks down and cries like girl.

Wow so it’s episode four already? The team are amazed that they have managed to hoodwink so many people for this long. Vegard is pretending to be ill and did not turn up for the recording so we fed his share of the cookies to my dog Archie.

In this rip roaring release we see the guys try to pretend they have a running order and failing miserably. Pete lets slip his true feelings for ZenCart and Matt brags about meeting someone famous.

We finally see the arrival of the much talked about room x1101 which nearly falls in on itself until the team heroically pull it back from the brink at the last minute, but are they really sure on what they decided?. Pete lowers the tone as per usual by threatening to turn his webcam on and Matt reaches for a man sized box of kleenex while reading the feedback emails.

Finally the team get bored with Linux and get all excited about Glastonbury 2011 instead.

Here is the third ground breaking release from the now smug team at The Dick Turpin Roadshow.
Fresh from the accolades heaped upon them from the Open Source community Pete and Matt pour forth new insights into what a working week really should consist of.

The team get all excited at the masses of feedback they had from the last episode, Matt tells us about the exciting new feature of Room x1101 where you the listener suggest items to be consigned to oblivion loosely based on the hit TV show “Room 101”. Pete goes all ‘conspiracy theory’ and suggests Oracle might have done some slight of hand with Open Office.

Vegard is still in Japan and we have not forgiven him so refuse to give him any credit in this episode, it’s cruel but we don’t care.
